Britney Barbie

Help! Just because I have long blond hair doesn't mean people can compare me to others???
Hi, I'm a stay at home young mommy of a 2 yr old and an 11 month old. I have long blond hair, I love it, since I'm older I let my hair grow out to my chest because I can take care of it. My whole life, just because the colour of my hair people always compared me to Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Barbie..Even this one man showed me a Barbie that did look like me...Sad, but true. My 4 year old niece calls me Auntie Barbie. I will not change my appearance at all, but how to I get friends to stop saying "oh we saw a girl that looks just like you" I try to ignore it and give a smile, but it's been going on forever. Some people I believe are jealous and do not want to talk to me, because I look different. I'm not on a high horse, and I'm low maintenance. What's going on? It's hard to get a playdate with other moms. My neighbors even thought I was a stripper! What can I do?, I wear polo's and conservative clothing. Why are friends, neighbors, and strangers like this?
In this overly image-conscious society, people will always compare others, there's nothing that can be done about that whether you look great or awful accoring to the dictates of society. I'm sure it's not helping you any that the three blondes you mentioned have helped give being blonde it's sterotypical meaning back.
And who knows, maybe some actually DID see someone who looks a lot like you. They say we all have a twin somewhere, perhaps yours is just nearer to you than most.
As far as those mothers...there has been a lot in the news and media lately about how more experienced mothers are always trying to find fault with young mothers. In that case I believe it truly is a matter of them being a bit envious. It's just a shame your child has to suffer because of their pettiness. Sadly, THEIR kids see what they're doing and start doing it themselves to their peers.
Let's face it, it's almost impossible to change someone's mind once they have an idea about something so the best you can do is keep on being you. You know what they're assuming is unfounded and so do the people who know you and care about you.
The best thing you can do is just keep being you and taking care of your child the best way you know how. If they make any more negative comments, kill them with sweetness and say "Oh thank you!" or "You're so kind" etc. Perhaps even find something about them that actually IS a positive to flatter them in return and be sincere about it. Eventually, they'll realize their barbs have no effect and it should stop. If they don't come around, there are always other ways to keep your child entertained and socialized.
