making play home for rats!!?

well i want to make them some sorta play house thing!! but its not gonna be like most peoples, see if this is ok:

well i do have like this little barbie tent from when i wa slike 5 (dont know why i still have it ) its round 10 inches wide and maybe about 12 inches high!! its really cute and has lots of small holes. the fabric on it is pretty cheap (like sheet fabric for a bed) and its ripping in one spot, i was cleaning out my closet and thought wai ti dont want to throw this away i could use it for my rats. soo anyway im gonna cut some holes in shoe boxes(how big of a hole). ummm thin sheets.....?? i have this really cool crate and it has holes big enough for rats to get through and climb on soo i might use that too!! any other ideas?? please

Its a great idea butthe downfall is it will probably only last about three days max. With the tent, remember it will be deomolished by the rats and also be positive that any plastic on the tent is not dangerous. Cardboard soaks up urine fairly quickly and the holes depending on how big the rats are now will probably have to be 5cm in diameter. If it's too small the rats will expand them. The crate sounds wonderfully and you could just put it near or as part of a heap to create a play area. Just remeber safety and creativity!
